With the significant investment in infrastructure in the West Midlands and the impact of the English Devolution White Paper, which grants additional powers to regional combined authorities like the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), it is an opportune moment to spotlight midlands-based design consultancies. These consultancies might seek to participate in upcoming projects and discuss how commissioning clients will collaborate with them. An event featuring Transport for West Midlands (TFWM) and WMCA representatives will emphasize procurement opportunities and the growth in the infrastructure and regeneration sectors.
Notably, this includes the TFWM’s £2.2 billion devolution fund and private sector funding related to development opportunities associated with HS2. With both national and regional governments advocating for strong design governance, and following the recent appointment of a new Design Manager by TFWM, this roundtable will serve as a platform for commissioning clients to discuss the value of good design. Moreover, it will explore how best practices in design can be implemented and how outcomes can be measured.
The event will welcome organizations of all sizes, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) based in the Midlands or consultancies aiming to expand their business in the region. Attendees will gain insights into achieving success by understanding how commissioning clients can minimize barriers in the procurement and delivery of projects.
